UK import Captain Britain scored his first City win in very trying conditions at Moonee Valley tonight.
Run in torrential rain, his run was full of merit, forced to sit 3 wide with no cover throughout in the trying conditions.
The lightly raced son of Camelot who we purchased as a yearling at the famous Tattersalls sale in the UK, showed he is a horse with a ton of ability finding a way to win after the torrid run he had to endure.
Apprentice Wiremu Pinn didn’t have much option other than to travel in the wide lane after not being able to slot in from his deep gate. To his credit, he kept the 5yo balanced and in a nice rhythm as he edged closer from the 600m. Knowing the quality of the horse he had under him he dashed to the front and found some separation on his rivals. Staunch gave chase but in vain as our boy had too big a break. Though he was getting tired late as he was entitled to, he toughed it out gamely to score an ultra impressive victory. The 2kg claim helped but he still had to concede 2kg to the runner up.
We have always had a strong opinion of this bloke and he is building a handy record with that his 4th win from just 11 starts. He is a Saturday class galloper (possibly beyond) who will be heading to the Ballarat Cup Day meeting on Sat 9th to compete in the McKellar Mile.
It’s great to see the win in Craig Pearce’s Princeton Stud’s colours. He’s been a great supporter of ours and deserves the result. Congratulations also to fellow owners, Mr P McRedmond, Harlem Racing No. 2, Mr G Kaparos, H Y L W D Racing, Mr A Van, Mr M J Gordon, Mr P Garofalo, Mr L McMillan, Mr M W Scholten, Mr N J McKissock, Mr D Cicciarelli, Mr G Singh, Mr N Cooke, Mr C Carter, P H C Racing and Mr R D Partington.
